Engaging in Combat

Using the map or the Squadron Manager or fighting from within a vehicle in first-person all have their advantages when you're engaged in combat. Using all three in concert will give you the winning edge.

The Map

Drag your cursor over a group of vehicles on the map, and then click a destination point or a particular target. The units you have selected will move there together as a squad and, depending on the squad's aggressiveness level, they will attack enemy units along the way or once they arrive.

To deselect a selected squad, right-click the mouse. You can also move the map about freely by holding down the right mouse button while dragging the mouse.

The Squadron Manager

Setting a squad's aggressiveness level appropriately is essential for developing an effective and efficient fighting force. For example, if you want your units to retreat quickly, set their aggressiveness level to 1 and they will retreat directly to your Host Station. (If a squad leader vehicle is heavily damaged, it will automatically set its own aggressiveness level to 1 and return to the Host Station for repair. The only exception is when a squad leader is set to aggressiveness level 5. Then it will never retreat, no matter how damaged.)

If you've sent your squad to fight an enemy host station, speed is of the essence. Set the aggressiveness level to 2 and get them there quickly. They will ignore all targets en route, saving the ultimate attack for the destination target once they arrive.

If you want your squad to attack everything in sight and never retreat, set the aggressiveness level to 5.

Arrange individual squads according to vehicle class for efficient movement. For example, tanks are slow but extremely sturdy and powerful. Send them short distances to combat against heavy artillery. Send airplanes long distances because they will quickly arrive at a destination.

Mix and match vehicles within squads to build powerful combinations. For instance, mix helicopters with tanks to form a squad that moves at a similar speed and provides both ground and air support.

Jumping into a Vehicle

During the height of combat, it is always advantageous to jump into a vehicle and fight first-person.

Jump into a squad leader vehicle and your entire squad will fight with you. They will drive where you drive and shoot where you shoot. Jump into a drone and you can explore the terrain independently of the entire squad following you. Fighting as a drone is an excellent way to see the layout of your enemy's fighting position.

When you fight first-person, your vehicle's weapons strength is markedly increased. Jump into a squad leader vehicle and take an enemy host station, directing your entire squad's line of fire against it.

Joystick, Mouse, or Keyboard?
